My Favourite Characters - Wallace

This one isn't anything deep or complex or anything, Wallace is a character I love simply because he's funny...that's it, he doesn't have many layers to him, he's just funny, in fact, he's more than that, he is really really funny. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is one of my all time favourite comedies and Wallace is the funniest character in the film, and considering how many funny characters are in this film, that's saying something. Wallace is Scott's gay and often passive roommate who really doesn't seem to have a care in the world, all he does is sleep with dudes and make fun of everyone else. You know how often the supporting character is the one you end up loving more than the main character? Wallace is one of those characters, he has so many lines that me and my friends are constantly quoting "Look out! It's that one guy!" "Kick her in the balls!" "Uh you know what, he just left". The dude is friggin' hilarious, but in fact he almost has no purpose in the movie, he doesn't have his own arc to go through, he only interacts with a handful of characters and whenever he's present during the big set pieces he's always just the guy on the sidelines heckling everyone, and really, sometimes that's all you need. I will say probably the most "complex" thing about him is that he really doesn't act like your stereotypical gay character, in fact, when they first said he was gay I thought it was just a joke, but nope, he's actually gay, so props to the writers for giving the world a hilarious and gay character that doesn't just rely on stereotypes in order to get some good comedy out of him, in fact a lot of his jokes don't rely on him being gay, I mean yeah there are jokes about him sleeping around with other dudes but I feel like 80-90% of them could easily be made if he was sleeping around with women instead. So Wallace really is a unique character and easily one the funniest characters I've ever seen.
