E3 Expo - EA Announcements

E3 went strong and now is time to talk of the EA Announcements, the big one of them all is Mass Effect: Andromeda, the new Mass Effect game developed by Bioware. I am a humongous fan of Mass Effect to no undying degree and this new game is just under The Force Awakens for my most anticipated media product, and while what was shown got a lot of people talking...i don't see what the big deal was. Very few new facts were given as this press conference, we got the name "Mass Effect Andromeda" which one can assume is referring to the Andromeda galaxy, which if so then it's a very functional title. We also got a release date of Holiday 2016, which isn't very specific and let's be honest, considering how many games get pushed back these days, there's no guarantee of this gaming coming out for that time. Everything else wasn't anything new, "you will play as a human, male or female" well okay, but we could do that before "You will explore the galaxy" we could also do that before "You can pilot to Mako"already knew that, and it's been done "Krogan and Turians will be in the game" right, cause we've never seen that in a Mass Effect game before. We didn't get very much in terms of new information, even the trailer didn't tell us anything so i don't see what the big deal was.

Up next is the gameplay footage for Star Wars Battlefront developed by Dice, basically put, it looks incredible. This gameplay was obviously scripted and edited but nevertheless, the fact that all this is possible and looks this damn good. Battlefront 2 is one of my all time favourite games, so seeing a new gen version of it after so long looks glorious. The combat has been improved, the graphics are amazing, sound design is incredible, the amount of action and detail looks insane, i honestly can not wait to play this, hopefully it will be amazing and not the big fuckupery that was...every other shooter Dice has ever made.

Speaking of Star Wars, there is also a new The Old Republic videogame coming out, Knights of the Fallen Empire, but sadly i don't have much to say for this because i never played The Old Republic or MMORPG's in general so i have very little to say about this, the trailer looked nice, i'll give it that and it is set to be released 27th October 2015, exclusive to PC.

Then there was more for Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, a prequel/reboot game for the original Mirror's Edge released back in 2008, this instalment coming out 23rd February 2016, the game is an origin story for the main character Faith and will also be an open world action platformer. I was never a big fan of the original Mirror's Edge because i found the art design distracting, the story wasn't compelling and the gameplay just wasn't fun for me. Making this new game open-world is definitely a step in the right direction and graphics wise it looks great, if they can perfect the controls then maybe I would buy this game. As for everyone else, they seem to be very impressed with what we've seen so far so this game is definitely a step in the right direction.

The final game i wish to talk about for EA is Unravel, a new IP, a 2D Platformer/side scroller where you play as a ball of yarn in the shape of a cat. The game looks absolutely beautiful, but I'm less than impressed. The silent but beautiful 2D Platformers is a genre that I am slowly getting sick of because we've seen so many of them and often the games attempt to elongate their existance unecessarily, a good example is Child of Light, a beautiful 2D turn based RPG that was a lot of fun to play...if it was about half as long as it was. I worry that Unravel will be the same, no release date is confirmed for Unravel but I would assume early 2016.

All of these games (with the exception of Old Republic) will be released across all platforms for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
