Did Buffy Change Everything?

Has there ever been a show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Well...Supernatural maybe, but Buffy did it first! And better! I mean, just think about this description of Buffy. A horror/comedy about a typical teenage girl turned demon hunter with her geeky friends and a librarian as they kill vampires on a nightly basis. Eventually their group grows bigger with a rockstar werewolf, a lesbian witch, an emo vampire with a soul, amongst many others. Now...tell me if you know a show out there that is even remotely like that, in anyway whatsoever. You just can't, and you know what, this show was a lot more progressive than I think people give it credit for. In our modern day society, the demand for more badass female action stars is higher than ever, and here, Joss Whedon and Sarah Michele Gellar were able to give us one of the most iconic action heroes in 1997. There is also a lot of debate over representation of the LGBT communtiy in moder day media, again, Buffy had a lesbian couple that was never done to just sexy eye candy or a cheap gimmick, but actually created a well developed and believable relationship, and this was back in the 90's, which was not the best time for gays in the media, mostly because the media wanted so bad to prove that they were totally fine with gay people that they flooded the market with them, the problem is they had no idea how to write gay characters and they all came across as stereotypically cheesy. Point is, Buffy, whether people realise it or not, did a lot of things differently that for the most part was unheard of, or, at the very least, was handled much better here than in other shows at the time. Nice goin' Buffy, you rock!
