Just had to get that rant out of the way, let's talk about the trailer...it was fine. The big talking point is of course Apocalypse, people nit picking and whining over the smallest things "His design sucks!" Right, because the comic book design for Apocalypse would totally work on screen "He's not even purple!" Well i'm glad to see your life is so good that the biggest problem you can have is that a character is blue instead of fucking purple. And yes, the design is different from the Entertainment Weekly shoot, but this isn't a reaction to that, they said in that interview that his design is constantly changing, and besides EW can't do a good photoshoot to save their lives.
From what we can gather from this trailer is a pretty standard story, Apocalypse shows up to fuck things up, he gathers his 4 horsemen, kidnaps Xaviar and now the X-Men lead by Mystique of all people have to fight to get him back. That's another complaint people have but one i think has some legitimatcy behind it "Why doesn't Mystique look like Mystique!?" I don't know. My assumption would be they think audiences are so stupid that they won't recognise Jennifer Lawrence if she's blue, especially seeing as this doesn't make sense for her character because she's supposedly "Mutant and proud" and being in disguise all the time only makes her half as strong, so what the hell Raven? Also i'm kinda sick of Mystique being the big vital role in these films, i understand Jennifer Lawrence is a massive star and you want to use that to the best you can, but she's not meant to be the lead character, she's a supporting role. I dunno, maybe i'm just jaded because her character was so awful in the last film that i'm hesitant on seeing her in a major role again.
But the best part of this trailer in my opinion was the final few seconds with Professor X in Cerebro and feeling Apocalypse's power, the range of emotions he goes through in just one sentence "I've never felt so much power" he goes from horrified to impressed to overjoyed to respectful within 6 words. That's what Fox has over Marvel, they fully take advantage of the fact that they have phenominal actors in their ranks and they give some damn amazing performances and James McAvoy's delivery on just that line proves it.
So those were my thoughts on the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer...admmitedly half of this was just me bitching about Marvel fanboys but that's because they're really starting to irritate me. I'm excited for this movie and i am sold, i don't need to see anymore trailers.
