You know what upsets me? The fact that Wonder Woman is supposed to be one of the DC Trinity, yet she doesn't get nearly as much exposure as Batman or Superman. Over the years Batman has had 4 animated series, 8 live action feature films, 17 animated films, 20 videogames and a live action television series. Meanwhile Superman has had 2 animated series, 7 live action feature films, 8 animated films, 17 videogames and 4 live action television series. So how many has Wonder Woman had? 1 live action feature film, 1 animated film and 1 live action television series. Oh, she's appeared as a main character in plenty of videogames and tv series, but those are all Justice League and other team ups. Never the sole protagonist. And I call bullshit on this because Wonder Woman is part of the trinity for a reason, and she is such an interesting and badass character that she deserves to get more exposure.
Wonder Woman represents a lot of what a superhero should be, she is compassionate, she is confident, she is brave and she constantly encourages those around her to better themselves. There's a quote from her that I absolutely love that goes "Don't kill if you can wound, don't wound if you can subdue, don't subdue if you can pacify, and don't raise your hand until you've at first extended it." and really that sums it all up. Wonder Woman is an amazing fighter, no question, she's super strong, has being trained in multiple forms of combat and has even fought gods. But fighting is never her go to response, she will always show mercy and kindness when she can, fighting is only when she has to, or if it's to protect someone else. Frankly that's something that you should want in your superheroes, you should want them to show restraint, to be able to keep themselves in check and want nothing more than to protect people and live in harmony. Remember, Wonder Woman comes from an island paradise, she's seen what living in harmony is like, she likes it, that's why she left and became a hero, so the rest of the world can experience that as well, her end goal is literally everyone being happy and together, I love this damn hippy.
Some people actually scoff whenever I say Wonder Woman loves everyone, because they only see the warrior, they never look past that. But in fact it is true, Wonder Woman is capable of loving everyone. She always tries to see the best in people and bring that out in them. One of my favourite Wonder Woman comics is one where she works in a fast food chain, is she humiliated by it? No. She puts as much effort in being good at that job as she does being a superhero, because Wonder Woman believes everyone has greatness in them and would want you to succeed at whatever you're skilled/passionate about. You want to be a baseball player? Well she'd tell you to practise every day until you're the best! You wanna be a scientist? Read all those textbooks! Be a damn genius! You wanna be a chef? Well why aren't you cooking! You're not gonna work in a 5 star restaurant standing there! I've always described the trinity as Batman is there to stop you from being bad, Superman is there to make you good, Wonder Woman is there to make you the best damn version of yourself you can ever be.
And something that I should probably touch upon seeing as it is recent news with the character, Wonder Woman being revealed as bisexual. Again, it just goes to show how little some people know about this character when they think this is "SJW-Bullshit" and it completely goes against her absolutely straight character...You guys know Wonder Woman spent the majority of her life on an island filled with the most beautiful and perfect women you can imagine? Do you not think at any point in her life she might have just been a little bit attracted to one of them? I repeat: Wonder Woman loves everyone! Honestly this makes more sense than any other character being revealed as bi or gay or anything other than straight. Like when Marvel made Iceman gay? That didn't make any sense. DC making one of the Green Lanterns that no one cares about gay? Well that came out of nowhere! But Wonder Woman makes so much sense considering her origin, her character and philosophy. Also while granted I've never been one to think a character has to be like me in order to relate and love them, it is nice as a bisexual person than one of the biggest superheroes of all time, someone who is all about love, someone who thousands of people know and look up to, also happens to be bisexual. That's just kind of cool. Also she was already to go to character for young girls to look up to, now she'll also be the go to character for bisexual and other lgbt+ people to look up to, and frankly, the more people who look up to Wonder Woman, acknowledging how freaking amazing she is, well that's just swell.
