Logan - Trailer Review

So...who saw this coming? Logan, directed by James Mangold, the same man who directed The Wolverine and starring Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart and is said to be both their last times playing the roles finally has a trailer released and...by god it looks fantastic. My first thought after watching it was "This trailer is more interesting than half the superhero movies I've seen". For those of you unaware of the plot, it's semi-based on the infamous comic series 'Old Man Logan' where Logan has given up, the superheroes are dead and villains rule the land. Oh there was also stuff about incestuous hulks but thank goodness they can't do that. Frankly I am so glad they've made changes, because Old Man Logan is kind of a crappy book, if you'd like to find out why, click here. This story however seems to follow the general tone of all the superheroes being dead, mutants are a dying breed and the world has gone to shit. But this looks more like Logan is being chosen by a very sickly Charles Xavier to protect and transport this little girl who will most likely turn out to be X-23, Logan's clone. Yeah I wouldn't be the first person to address the similarities to The Last of Us, hell I've been saying for years if they have to make a Last of Us movie then Hugh Jackman would be perfect.

So what makes this trailer work? Apart from the Johnny Cash song, because that could make anything look artsy fartsy. But that's not to dismiss it, because the use of that song mixed with the visuals connotes a more grounded and human story. The title alone suggests that, it's not just a Wolverine movie, it's Logan's movie, it's a personal story, it's about him, not the hero. It's the same as if they called a Spider-Man movie 'Peter' it just carries a different weight too it. Also the fact that this film is going to be rated R really shows Fox is letting them do whatever they want with this film, it's Jackman & Stewart's last time playing these roles they've been doing for 17 years, and especially Jackman who was steering the ship for most of it, he's earned the chance to get his send-off in whichever way he sees fit.

Everything from the production of this film to the trailer is really promising, we can only hope it is as good as this trailer because this film is now one of my most anticipated of 2017. Logan comes out 2nd March in the UK and 3rd March in the US.
