When it comes to fiction, the most important element to me over every other aspect of a product is the characters, characters can make or break a product to me, whether it be film, TV, video game, book, etc. It doesn't matter if the story is fantastic and full of deep themes and metaphors, if I find the characters boring, I don't like the film. And then on the otherside if the story is uttershit and cliched as hell but has a really cool character, then I could end up liking the film. Character over story for me, so as you can imagine I have plenty of favourite characters, and I decided that every so often I'm going to do a blog post where I just talk about them, and I'm starting this whole thing off with the best character from my favourite fantasy story, Hermione from Harry Potter.
Hermione is a total badass, she's the one who knows everything and if it wasn't for her, shit would never get done. Let's start off with her best quality, her intelligence. Hermione despite being muggle-born knows more about the wizarding world and magic than probably half of the teachers at Hogwarts, she's the best wizard in the school and because of her brains she got Harry & Ron out of a problem on multiple occasions. Whether it be making a polyjuice potion when only 12 or convincing Harry to start up Dumbledore's Army, she's the one that makes the big difference. As Ron puts it "we wouldn't last two days without her" and that is very true, in the Deathly Hallows she's the one coming up with plans, she's the one that knows all of the spells to keep them safe, she's the one that figures out the sword of Gryffindor will destry the Horcrux's, let's face it, in comparison to her, Harry is a total dumbass, she's the better character, make her the focus of the story!
But there is more to her than brains, if that was all there was then she'd be a Ravenclaw, the only thing more powerful than her brain is her heart, her courage and loyalty is the reason why she is constantly in perrel that she gets herself out of, her friends need her, she knows it, even when it could end in her getting killed (or worse, expelled) she isn't going to abandon them. She's smart, loyal, responsible & brave, she's an all-round fantastic character, and is one of the very best.
